While I've mostly written about ultimate frisbee, my professional experience is in aerodynamics. I’ve changed the phrasing around once or twice, but the blurb on the welcome page has always mentioned "aerodynamics" as a topic of this blog. After this week, that claim will actually be true.
I know the vast majority of my readers didn’t sign up to read about aerodynamics. Partly as a result of that, and partly because it’ll help me stop procrastinating, I’ve decided I’m going to break from my usual one-post-a-week routine and just post all my aerodynamics posts this week.
If you're not here to read about aerodynamics, please feel free to skip them. I won’t be offended in the least. But if you like reading about science, give them a try. (And if you like the idea of reading 15,000 words about aerodynamics, well, you’re in luck!) It's probably impossible to completely avoid technical jargon, but I'll do my best to write in a way that's comprehensible to people who haven't studied aerodynamics. Feel free to let me know whether I've succeeded in that goal.
Some unnecessary personal background: the ideas in these posts have been in my mind for at least 6 years. But I’ve always found ways to procrastinate on finishing the process of turning the ideas into essays. Partly because I’m lazy. Partly because it’s sorta scary, and I have more imposter syndrome posting about aerodynamics than I do about frisbee. I consistently managed to find enough frisbee-related topics to write about that I could always tell myself “hey…I might still be procrastinating on aero, but at least I’m writing”. That’s all to say…putting these posts up is really the “monkey off my back”, as they say. I don’t think they’re perfect—I’ve decided to prioritize actually posting them and getting my ideas out into the world over wasting more time trying to make them perfect. Perhaps now my mom will stop making comments about how I’m not interested in engineering anymore!
After this post, you can expect one new post per day for the next 5 days. They’re already scheduled to post automatically, so I can’t chicken out. After that, I may write about aero every once in a while, or I might never write about it again.
Enjoy~
